General Information

At the “Gheorghe Asachi “Technical University of Iasi the courses are taught in Romanian, excepting a single specialization taught in English at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Installations
2 Semesters (Autumn + Spring Semester)
The structure of the academic year for license and master studies, excepting the last semester, is the following:
•The beginning of the academic year: 1st of October or the first Monday of the month, the nearest to October 1st.
•Autumn Semester, 14 weeks of academic activity interrupted by Christmas and New Year’s Holiday, with a duration of 2 weeks
•Winter Holiday, with a duration of 1 week
•Spring Semester , 14 weeks of academic activity, interrupted by the Easter Holiday, with a duration of 1 week
•Examination Period, with a duration of 3 weeks
•Practical Training, with a duration of 3 weeks
•Summer holidays, with a duration of 12 weeks
•Autumn Session examinations, with a duration of 2 weeks

Information specific to exchange students

The students of the “Gheorghe Asachi “Technical University of Iasi can apply for an Erasmus study stage within the European Union, to be performed at one of the European partner universities.Each faculty has an Erasmus Co-ordinator responsabile for students selection.The list of the necessary documents for the outgoing students is available on www.tuiasi.ro.The Erasmus Learning Agreement is signed between the student and the university and it states the curricula, number of credits, and the students's rights and obligations
English is required
Each faculty has its own application deadline:
1.April-June, for the undergraduate students
2.September-Octomber, for post graduate and P.h.D. students.
The date of the selection is established by the Erasmus co-ordinator for each faculty.
Our outgoing students benefit the accommodation from each partner University, excepting the case the university has no campus.
English
Outgoing students pay only the regular fees requested by the partner university as their own students.

Information Specific to international degree seeking students

Admission for foreign students
Foreign students who want to enroll to the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi have two choices:
I. To submit their documents to the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth
II. To submit their documents directly to the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical Universityof Iasi
I. Admission through the Ministry of Education, Research Aand Youth
Foreign students coming to study to Romania, both those who want to get a Romanian Government scholarship and the ones who pay their school fees, must contact the Department for Student Mobilities within the General Office for International Relationsstr. Spiru Haret nr.12, Bucuresti, Tel/Fax: +40.21.13 13 10 13).
(Romanian embassies from abroad can offer information about admission to Romanianuniversities.
 Documents for enrolment to undergraduate/postgraduate/Ph.D. studies:
1. certified copies by the Romanian embassies/consulates in the issuing country/countries of the following documents translated in Romanian / English / French language:
a. high-school diploma and transcript of records for the high-school studies
b. University graduation diploma and the transcript of records for the university studies
c. birth certificate
d. marriage certificate (if the applicant’s last name changed subsequent to marriage)
2. Candidates must also submit the original documents
3. medical certificate
4. curriculum vitae (for Ph.D. studies)
5. list of publications (for Ph. D. studies)
6. four passport-size photos
7. application form, which can be taken from the web site of the Ministry of Education,Research and Youth, http://www.edu.ro or can be downloadedfrom here: application form(http://www.tuiasi.ro)
All above-mentioned documents must be submitted to the Department for Student Mobilities within the General Office for International Relations (str. Spiru Haret nr.12, Bucuresti,Tel/Fax: +40.21.13 13 10 13
Important
- before registration, all the documents are checked by the Romanian Ministry of Education,Research and Youth in order to make sure they are valid.
- if the study documents are issued in an international language, they no longer have to be translated into Romanian,
as their certification by the Romanian embassy/consulate in the issuing country is enough
Through its above-mentioned department, the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth ensures:
a. the equivalence of the studies attended in the origin countries according to the conventions Romania is partner
b. the financial conditions the students have to fulfill
c. the distribution of students at institutions of higher education according to their specialization and their wish
d. counselling students who need to go through a medical exam before being admitted
Foreign students who enroll through the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research and Youth will contact the Office of International Relations and University Image within The“Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi (Bd. D.Mangeron 67, 700050-Iasi,tel.:+40.232.278628; fax:+40.232.278628 or ; email:rectorat@staff.tuiasi.ro or international@tuiasi.ro ), and will submit the following
documents:
e. the Order of the Minister of Education and Research;
f. the bank receipt proving the payment of fees
g. four passport size photos
h. the passport.
Afterwards, the students go to the faculty they have chosen and present a copy of the Minister’s Order
II. Admission directly to the „Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi.Foreign citizens who want to study at the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi
must contact the Office of International Relations and University Image or the Rector’s Office for details concerning the administrative procedure, tuition fee and accommodation costs.
They must submit the documents stipulated in the chapter above-mentioned “Documents for enrolment to Ph.D. studies”.
The documents will be send to the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth in view to get the Approval Order for studying at universities in Romania,issued by the Minister of Education , Research and Youth.
 Enrollment conditions
Foreign citizens can enroll to our university as self sponsorized students without having to pass an entrance exam
If they want to register for courses in Architecture, they must demonstrate some ability in artistic and technical drawing.
Candidates for a Ph.D. Programme are required to pass an exam to prove they have the necessary knowledge in the field of study.They also need the scientific coordinator’s agreement.

Language proficiency - English is required
Deadlines for incoming students:
Autumn Semester:
- 5th of September 2008: deadline for sending Student Application Form and Learning Agreement;
- 10th of September 2008: confirmation of acceptance as an Erasmus student;
- 29 th of September – 2nd of October 2008: application for accommodation;
Spring Semester:
- 15th of January 2009: deadline for sending Student Application Form and Learning Agreement;
- 20th of January 2009: confirmation of acceptance as an Eramus student;
- 16th of February – 20th of February 2009: application for accommodation
Student Accommodation:
University Campus comprises 21 halls of residence in the “Tudor Vladimirescu” Campus area,which is very close to the university and is situated at 10 minutes by taxi from the center of the city.
The Erasmus incoming students are accommodated in T8, in rooms for two.
A place in a hall of residence costs 150 Euro per month.
Courses in Romanian
a. Foreign students who want to attend undergraduate/postgraduate/PhD courses
taught in Romanian, and do not speak Romanian, begin their studies with the Romanian Language Preparatory Course,offered by the „Al.I.Cuza” University of Iasi, the monthly fee being 320 USD.
b. Foreign students who want to attend undergraduate/postgraduate/Ph.D. courses taught in Romanian,
and speak Romanian, begin their studies after passing a
Romanian Language Examination at the « Gheorghe Asachi » Technical University of Iasi, the examination fee being 320 USD for undegraduate level and 340 USD for postgraduate and Ph.D level
Courses in foreign languages
• Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies:
Courses of Civil Engineering are taught in English. Foreign students who want to attend undergraduate and postgraduate courses taught in English , and have a different native
language, begin their studies after passing and English Language Examination at The“Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi, the examination fee being 320 USD for
undergraduate level and 340 USD for postgraduate level.
• Ph.D studies:
Foreign candidates can attend Ph.D. courses taught only in Romanian language. At the end of the studies, they are allowed to write the Ph.D. thesis in a foreign language, but the summary must be written in Romanian language
Tuition Fee for students paying for their studies
When they come to the „Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi, students have to pay the first three months’ fees in advance.
They can pay the rest of the fees in one or several
installments after the beginning of courses.
The fees are to be paid at the Romanian Commercial Bank- Iasi Branch, Palat street,11.
Students go to the bank after having received an invoice issued by the Rector’s Office of the University.
- 320 USD/month for undergraduate studies (4 years and 6 years for Architecture)
- 340 USD/month for Postgraduate studies
- 340 USD/month – for full-time Ph.D. studies
- 109 USD/month (3,67 USD/day), representing the holiday fee for foreign student swho stay in Romania during the legal holidays.
This fee includes medical insurance,right of staying in Romania and access at University facilities (library, etc.).
- 340 USD – registration fee; 340 USD – for each exam and written paper and 845USD – for the Doctoral Thesis, for part-time Ph.D. studies..
The part-time PhD programme includes three exams and three written scientific reports.
 Important
The above-mentioned fees do not include board and lodging costs. These tuition fees are established by the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research and Youth.
