The National Academy of Art is the oldest (est. 1896) and biggest school in this country for fine and applied arts. Most of Bulgarias renowned artists over the past 110 years have been its graduates.
The National Academy of Arts has several buildings, housing numerous auditoriums, studios, laboratories, workshops, a museum, a computer centre, a library with branches on 2 sites, administrative offices, sports facilities and cafeterias. Today the Academy prepares about 1000 students for a wide range of careers in fine arts, art criticism and design. There are currently 150 undergraduate and 5 foreign doctoral students. A notable number of our alumni have won wide recognition in their chosen fields of endeavour. The National Academy of Art has two departments, of Visual Art and of Applied Arts. The chairs in both departments are responsible for the development and implementation of the curricula in the following fields where students acquire professional university degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Doctor of Arts. In Fine Arts: Painting; Mural Painting; Sculpture; Graphic Art; Book and Printed Graphic Design; Poster and Visual Communication; History of Art; Theory and Practice of Education in the Arts In Applied Arts: Woodcarving; Ceramics; Stage Design; Textile; Metal; Industrial Design;Design in Advertising; Porcelain and Glass; Design of Children's Environment; Fashion; Restoration The National Academy of Art is a party to the EC Socrates/Erasmus programme and has been awarded the Erasmus University Charter. NAA has been a member of the European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) since 1995. |
