A very attractive feature of the Hochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten (University of Applied Sciences) is its location on the town’s outskirts. Some 3,000 young men and women (thereof 10 percent international guests) study on the extensive campus instructed by 90 professors and around 170 external lecturers.
With its some 6,000 students enrolled at the Hochschule and the Pädagogische Hochschule (University of Education), Weingarten offers many advantages compared to overcrowded metropolitan cities. The wide variety of courses on offer at both universities in the fields of engineering science, computer science, social science, educational science, and journalism helps to expand the university members‘ knowledge and understanding beyond their own field of study.
In 1971, the Hochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten emanated from the Staatliche Ingenieurschule Ravensburg (State Engineering School Ravensburg) founded in 1964. Since 1982, the university has been located on the so-called „Töbele“. Töbele is the diminutive of „Tobel“ and refers to the deep and narrow canyon at the edge of the FH area, where a small creek winds its way.
Sometimes luck is on your side. The only important thing is to be in the right place at the right moment. This is what happened, in a figurative sense, at the Weingarten Hochschule. In the year 1997, the neighbouring international Bundeswehr military school moved out of the Welfen Barracks leaving an extensive area with four large buildings. These were reconstructed with the financial support of the Land Baden-Wurttemberg and now house lecture rooms and laboratories for the degree courses Social Work, Technology Management and Production & Management.
