The Conservatory of Music “Nino Rota” of Monopoli is one of the most interesting institution in the multiform panorama of Italian artistic and musical studies. It was founded at the beginning of the 1970’s thanks to Nino Rota who was at the apex of his career (thanks also to his fortunate collaboration with Federico Fellini). The prestige of the Conservatory was consolidated locally by the constant and passionate attention paid by the great composer to the promotion of young talent and a scrupulous attention to the hiring of the teaching staff. Since then the Conservatory has grown to its present size of 126 teachers and over 950 students (250 of them in High Level Study programs) coming from all over the region and even from overseas. Its geographic location (one of the few Italian conservatoires to be located in a small city) makes it the ideal place for the student looking for concentration and tranquillity for study and research.
All subjects relating to normal academic music study are represented. Worthy of note among our students is the interest shown for both traditional and modern aspects of musical language. Thus the presence of subjects such as “Orchestration for bands” (for a renewal and reappraisal of the repertoire for bands) exists side by side with courses such as “Jazz and Contemporary Repertoire (which has been taught for over 10 years), with many students and many initiatives and productions performed by the various orchestral and vocal groups. The peculiarity of the Conservatory resides above all in the great effort put into making public the artistic production of the students which has been overseen by the teaching staff during the Academic year.
In the 2008 The Conservatory “Nino Rota established the “ARTS Placement Consortium” with other Italian Conservatories, to increase the placement mobility of the Students abroad, and plans to build an International network of Universities and Enterprise with the aim to optimize the placement opportunities.
