16th AEEE Conference (Association of European Economics Education)

Economics and Business Education in a globalising Europe - Developing the European knowledge economy

he Association of European Economics Education (AEEE) organises in Ghent, with the Economic Council of East-Flanders and Ghent University, its 16th annual conference. This years theme is “Economics and Business Education in a globalising Europe” and more specific “Developing the European knowledge economy”. The Lisbon Strategy aims to make the EU economy “the most dynamic and competitive knowledge-based economy in the world” by 2010. Under the strategy, a stronger economy will drive job creation alongside social and environmental policies that ensure sustainable development and social inclusion. Making this happen will mean a fundamental transformation of education and training throughout Europe. What are the challenges of a knowledge-based economy for Economics and Business Education? This conference is an opportunity to see how teachers in different countries are meeting the challenges - of embracing the global economy and its implications for Europe’s competitive advantage and international development - of developing human capital with appropriate competencies to maintain Europe’s future welfare and the needs of the knowledge economy - of using ICT in business and economics education so that students develop an outward looking view of the world - of stimulating entrepreneurship and the spirit of enterprise (for economic and social profit) - of designing curricula, innovative teaching and assessment methods to enhance the students’ development and learning - of creating value to society by innovation e. g. through spin-offs - posed by new trends in teaching and assessment methods, the integration of lifelong learning, e-learning, self guided learning and coping with interdisciplinary projects as well as the need for evaluation of the teaching methods.
