IIE's Andrew Heiskell Awards - Deadline Extended to October 15th

IIE is delighted to invite you to nominate your program for the 2006-2007 Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education. Please note that we have made few changes to this year's award categories, including adding a new category for "International Exchange Partnerships."

IIE created these awards to honor outstanding initiatives in international higher education by IIENetwork member universities and colleges. IIE’s Heiskell Awards showcase the most innovative and successful models for internationalization of campuses, study abroad, and international exchange partnerships in practice today.  We look forward to receiving your nominations and to learning about the creative ways that you and your campuses are responding to the challenges of preparing the next generation to think and work on a global basis.

THE HEISKELL AWARD CATEGORIES:

Category 1: Internationalizing the Campus
Advancing curriculum development and creatively integrating international students into university life

Category 2: Study Abroad
Providing innovative programs and services which make study abroad more accessible to a broader student population

**Special Focus 2006-2007 - Increasing Diversity in Education Abroad**
The 2006 Award in the Study Abroad category will recognize best practices in increasing diversity in education abroad, with a particular focus on increasing participation of students of color and others who have traditionally been underrepresented in study abroad.

Category 3: International Exchange Partnerships

Developing innovative and effective collaboration with counterparts abroad

**New Category in 2006-2007**
IIE is pleased to launch this new Heiskell Award category in 2006-07. The award for International Exchange Partnerships will recognize institutions successfully collaborating with counterparts abroad. Consortia, direct exchanges, and development of joint curricula, including dual degree and joint degree programs, are just some of the effective partnerships eligible for the award. Exchange of faculty and administrators, as well as innovative use of technology to sustain research and teaching partnerships, are also encouraged. All innovative forms of linkages will be eligible for this award in the 2006-07 academic year.

NOMINATING YOUR PROGRAM:
Please describe your initiative's key components - highlighting what is the most innovative or outstanding feature - in a document of 3 pages or less. Please use the Heiskell Awards Nomination Cover Page (available online) as your cover sheet. Be sure to indicate on the cover page the award category for which you are nominating, and include a brief summary paragraph defining the program.

In your nomination, please consider the needs that your program addresses, whether it removes barriers or broadens the reach of international education, how the program has contributed to internationalization on your campus, and any documented results the program has achieved. You may also wish to describe any public, private or non-profit partnerships you have developed, or examples of cooperation with institutions in other countries, as well as how you spread the word about your program to students and parents, faculty and administration, and to the media and other audiences.

Finally, please also provide a signed letter from your Provost or President endorsing your program's nomination.

Winning programs will be featured on IIE's "Best Practices in Internationalization" website at www.iienetwork.org, and will be recognized at an award ceremony in New York in Spring 2007, in conjunction with IIE’s second annual Best Practices Seminar.

APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED:
Deadline extended to: October 15, 2006.  Your institution must be an IIENetwork member to be eligible for the Heiskell Award.
